A Weekend in Paris
With Saasha Burns

We’ll always have Paris. Sail across the sea and meet us in France for a weekend away with Saasha Burns. The multi-hyphenated creative mother-of-two and host of HOLIDAY – a lifestyle podcast igniting insightful conversations on fashion, travel, beauty and life in the city of love.

Explore Saasha’s guide on the best addresses to immerse and embrace the chicness of true Parisian culture. Here are her postcards from Paris.

STAY

Château Voltaire is our favourite place to stay in Paris. It’s very central, close to the Opéra de Paris, and feels more like a private house than a hotel. The interiors are stunning and the atmosphere is always calm and inviting. Their restaurant is also one of our favourites in Paris, and there is a private spa downstairs as well. It is the perfect base to explore the city if you stay for a few days.

Le Pigalle is in such a cool area of Paris, with a local vibe. A fun atmosphere and cosy rooms — try and book one with a stand alone bathtub. There are so many great cafes and restaurants nearby, and some of my favourite vintage stores. Be sure to wander down Rue des Martyrs when you are there. Sacre Coeur is also close by.

EAT

There are so many incredible boulangeries to try! My favourite is Mamiche in South Pigalle.

Cédric Grolet is also an incredible experience, if you aren’t short on time — the queues are usually a mile long. Stop for Nutella crepes around the city as well.

For a long lunch, I always love Loulou restaurant, especially in summer when you can sit outside.

OGATA Paris is a very special Japanese dining experience in Le Marais.

Hôtel Costes is very chic and Parisian — perfect to get dressed up for a long lunch with friends or a romantic dinner.

DO

I love walking absolutely everywhere, it’s such a great way to see the city and find little places to shop, for lunch or a drink. The fastest way to get around the city is the metro. I always love getting a coffee from Café Kitsuné (there are three locations quite close to each other) and wandering through Palais-Royal or Jardin des Tuileries.

The Musée de l'Orangerie is beautiful, with Claude Monet’s paintings. Reserve your tickets online so you avoid the huge queue.

Le Petit Palais is so stunning — there’s a little cafe inside where you can sit and have coffee and a macaron, and a small gallery. Entry is free and one of the few paces in Paris that isn’t too busy.

Merci Paris in Le Marais is always a must visit when in Paris for homewares and gifts. There are also so many beautiful stores nearby.

Boot Cafe does amazing Aussie style coffee around the corner (it's super tiny!) I also love Le Marché des Enfants for lunch (Rose Kitchen is incredible) or to stock up on fresh produce. Then head to Place des Vosges for a little picnic in the sunshine.

Le Bon Marché is my favourite department store, I could get lost in there for hours. Wander down Avenue Montaigne (Jacquemus flagship) and Rue Saint-Honoré (Chanel, Rue Cambon) for the luxury Parisian shopping experience.

Seeing the Eiffel Tower is always so special. Head to the Pont Alexandre III bridge at golden hour or watch the Eiffel Tower twinkle at night — every hour on the hour after dark until 11.45pm.

If you’re looking for a Parisian cabaret show, I’ve heard from friends that Crazy Horse is incredible (more contemporary than the iconic Moulin Rouge). I’m looking forward to seeing the show for my birthday in May.

WEAR

I love that you can never be overdressed in Paris! It’s such a great city to wear all your favourite pieces, and dress depending on your mood (or the weather). My go-to outfit has been a good pair of dark denim jeans with an oversized shirt, with either heels or sneakers and colourful statement handbag and accessories.

I also love wearing matching sets, such as a vest with a pair of trousers, and I have a few oversized blazers on high rotation. A quality pair of sunglasses always finishes your look.
