Our story began in early October of 2017, when conversations flowed effortlessly through long FaceTime calls, countless Snapchats, and an endless exchange of messages throughout each day. On the 17th of November, we met officially for the first time. That evening, Murray took Claudia on their first date to Vapiano in Surfers Paradise. That night was nothing short of magical. And by the next day, Claudia had completely won Murray’s heart, he asked her to be his girlfriend.
I (Murray) booked a stay at the Falls Farm Escape in the Byron Bay hinterlands. This place felt special... it was closer to home, closer to where we first met, and somehow, it just felt right. Before we arrived, I spoke to the hosts, a beautiful older couple about finding the perfect spot for the proposal. They went above and beyond, and on the day of, they took us on a quiet tour of their farm to scope out the area. Claudia had no idea what was happening, just thought it was part of the experience. Together, the hosts and I stumbled across a beautiful little clearing that felt just right. That’s where we chose to set everything up (Claudia still had no idea).

The hosts helped create the most magical scene: a picnic with rose petals, champagne, and Claudia’s favourite macadamia chocolate-coated nuts. But the surprise had to be kept alive, so I told her we had a dinner reservation in Byron. The idea was to get her dressed up and feeling beautiful (even though, let’s be real, she always is). But she wasn’t thrilled, she wanted to stay in, enjoy the country air, and nibble on cheese by the fire. Still, I gently insisted. As we “drove to dinner,” I told her we had to make a quick pit stop. I said, “Let’s go check out the kangaroos,” which earned me another slightly grumpy look, she just wanted to eat! But as we crossed the road and walked through a path of tall trees, the golden light of sunset casting a glow around us, she started to notice the rose petals scattered on the ground. That’s when I got down on one knee.. and asked her to spend the rest of her life with me.

We chose our wedding venue because it felt like the perfect blend of atmosphere, style and meaning. From the moment we visited, we loved the setting, the architecture, the scenery, and the overall ambiance just felt right for us. It offered the elegant yet relaxed vibe we wanted and it had enough space to bring our vision to life. It was the one place where we could genuinely picture ourselves celebrating with our family and friends, so the decision felt effortless.
The theme of our wedding was set within the breathtaking grounds of Deux Belettes, the French house. Guests were greeted with champagne and mingled to the sounds of a violinist. Styling was inspired by its otherworldly location, a French chateau in the Bryon Bay hinterlands. The ceremony was a romantic display with drapery, and tones suited to match the bridesmaids dresses with flowers such as baby pink peonies and chocolate cymbidium orchids create a warm yet ethereal setting.

Our florist was absolutely incredible @fiflar_. The soft baby pink peonies paired with rich chocolate cymbidium orchids created the most beautiful contrast, striking that perfect balance between warmth and ethereality. The combination felt romantic yet modern, adding depth and texture to the space without overwhelming it. It tied everything together so seamlessly and elevated the entire atmosphere of the day.

Our catering by @joechef.byronbay was exceptional. Established in 2013, Joe Chef has catered a wide range of events across the East Coast of Australia and interstate. Based in Byron Bay, the team celebrates local produce, utilising the richness of the hinterland and the region’s incredible seafood. The food was thoughtful, beautifully executed, and full of flavour the kind of dining experience that felt generous, relaxed, and perfectly suited to the day. Guests are still talking about how good it was, which says everything.

I envisioned something timeless, confident, and effortlessly elevated for my bridesmaids. I wanted the dresses to feel modern yet classic - something that wouldn’t overpower the day but would still make each of the girls feel incredible. My mood board leaned toward rich, moody neutrals, clean silhouettes, and that understated luxury feeling you get from a perfectly cut dress rather than heavy embellishment. My bridesmaids wore the La Lune Strapless Column Maxi Dress with the Lucent scarf in espresso, and it honestly couldn’t have been more perfect. The deep espresso tone felt chic and sophisticated, and the strapless column silhouette was so flattering across different body types. It photographed beautifully and gave the whole bridal party a really cohesive, polished look.
The girls absolutely loved the dresses and they were complimented non-stop all day. One of them said, “I felt so confident and comfortable, which never happens in a bridesmaid dress,” and another joked, “I’ve never been complimented this much at a wedding that wasn’t my own.” That was exactly what I hoped for: dresses they genuinely felt amazing in and would actually want to wear again.

My mom and I went wedding dress shopping together, and it was such a special moment to share with her. The whole experience was even more meaningful than I ever expected. We visited only two boutiques - Bloom Australia in Brisbane and KYHA Studios in Sydney and I tried on about 11 dresses in total. Each one helped me figure out what I truly wanted. But the moment I slipped into my gown, I just knew. It felt like me, the fit, the detailing, everything about it came together perfectly. I couldn’t resist the idea of a second dress, so I tried on a few options at KYHA Studios and I instantly found the perfect one. It was everything I wanted for the reception, sparkly, flawless, and so easy to dance the night away in.
