Step into a realm where old-world romance intertwines with a modern twist reminiscent of a Gatsby-inspired garden soiree. Join the union of Isobel and Paul as they exchange nuptials amidst the timeless charm of the historic Mona Farm on a rainy day in autumn.
Isobel curated a truly cherished detail for her ‘something blue’ as the bridal party graced the room adorned in the latest Azure colourway in Lani and Maiori silhouettes.

Brocky and I met at Splendour in the Grass through mutual friends. One of my best friends (Maya) and I were dropped off the night before the festival started by my mum, and we were meant to be camping with one of my other besties (Jen) and her friends. However, Jen was delayed, so she gave me Brocky’s number, saying, “Call Brocky. He’s the most responsible one in the group.”
We had a heap of camping gear to carry in and zero idea how to pitch our tent. Brocky swooped in the rescue - carrying in all our bags and pitching our tent. In the following months, I’d see him around at events and always loved chatting with him. Then one day, he asked me out on a date for my birthday.
A few years later on 28 December 2021, it was a cloudy day and we were staying with my mum in northern NSW over Christmas. Brocky was very keen to head to Watego’s beach to watch the sunset - which I thought was strange given the weather. But we went anyway and sat on the beach chatting away, having a wonderful time despite the gloomy skies.
In a moment that completely surprised me, Brocky got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He had a beautiful speech prepared, but because I was taken off guard, my reaction was to laugh uncontrollably (poor Brocky!).
I can’t tell you much of what he said, but I do remember him saying something like, “Individually, we’re good, but together, we’re great.” And I think that is such a powerful way to sum up our relationship.

Our planner, Laice Bollen of Place of LB, compiled a list of venues she thought we might like to check out. Mona Farm is a relatively new venue for weddings and it wasn’t one we’d previously had on our radar. It was only the second venue we had been to view however after visiting it for the first time, we both turned to each other and immediately said, “We need to make this happen.”
Something high on our venue wishlist was being able to house our large bridal party (10 bridesmaids and nine groomsmen), plus family on-site - kinda like a festival! Mona Farm is very unique in that it has multiple houses on-site plus plenty of accommodation nearby in the Braidwood township.
As for the event styling, we worked with Laice in the lead-up to create a unique concept. Our starting place was a garden soirée - to maximise Mona Farm’s lush grounds - but with a Gatsby twist (Brocky and I love the Prohibition era and jazz music). We had planned to have our ceremony outdoors on the Croquet Lawn followed by a cocktail hour on the Homestead Lawn - however, the weather had other ideas.
Sammy of Ffoliar Studio created flower arrangements for us that were refined “with moments of rambling,” as Sammy so aptly put it. We were inspired by the moody tones and often slightly chaotic arrangements of Dutch masters’ still-life paintings.
Our bespoke stationery and signage touches were dreamt up by Bella of La Robe Club. Bella’s custom details like rotating menus and personalised matchboxes really added the perfect finishing touches to tie everything together and make our wedding unforgettable.

Shona Joy has long been a treasured designer in my wardrobe and I’ve been wearing her designs for over a decade. I had known for a long time that when I got married, I would want my bridesmaids dressed in Shona Joy.
When I first approached the brand, I had a preliminary idea that I’d like the girls to be in different colours and different styles. However, after the team gave me a sneak peek at the new season’s striking Azure shade, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I also loved the symbolism of having my bridesmaids as my ‘something blue’ for my wedding day.
When I showed Laice the dress options, she was also immediately drawn to the Azure styles. I created a mock-up of the styles against the backdrop of Mona Farm’s Croquet Lawn (where we intended to have our ceremony), and everyone loved how the Azure popped against the deep green hedges.
When we did our initial try-on, we were also blown away by how divine Azure was on every skin tone. “I loved the colour of the dresses, they suited everyone with all different hair colours and complexions. The fit was super flattering and fitted enough without being too tight. All of the designs went well together or could be stand-alone pieces,” says Emily.
“The one-shoulder dress was stunning. The material was slightly thicker than most gowns, which was perfect for the cold – no bra needed! I felt like it hugged all the right places and I was able to dance in it all night,” says Jac.

Since I first started visualising what our wedding would look like, Jess of J. Andreatta’s designs have been at the forefront of my mind. When a friend sent me a photo of the Ella gown, I knew I needed to try it on.
When I went into Jess’s Surry Hills atelier to try on the Ella gown, it was love at first sight. I will never forget Jess stepping back once the gown had been fastened while saying, “It’s like it was made for you.”
I adore the way Jess has melded the old with the new when creating the Ella gown. With the basque waist and luxurious silk dupion, she references moments of decades past while blending them with modern elements like an asymmetrical dropped shoulder strap. The final result is a breathtaking two-piece gown that I can say with certainty, is the most beautiful thing I’ll ever wear in my life. Jess is a true artist.
